Bhangra is a lively form of music and dance that originated in the Punjab region in South Asia. The lyrics of Bhangra songs reflect the long and often tumultuous history of Punjab.
This dance form began as a part of harvest festival celebrations, and eventually became a part of such diverse occasions as weddings and New Year celebrations.
The Bhangra dancers will demonstrate and provide explanations to their dance form and introduce the “Dhol”, the traditional Bhangra percussion. We will also invite audiences to experience the vibrant dance through an interactive session.
As Bhangra continues to move into mainstream culture, an understanding of its history and tradition helps to appreciate it better. It is also possible to say that, Bhangra, is quite a popular dance form around the world today!
